Jodi & Troy
Hello fellow boxer lovers!

My name is Jodi Black and I am currently the Volunteer
Coordinator for MNBR. I work closely with our foster
homes to mentor them with their rescues and help them
place them in great homes. When I am not volunteering,
I work at a career focused college in the cities and enjoy
running, being outdoors, and spending time with my
family and friends.

I have always been an animal lover, which I get from my
mom, Linda-who is also a volunteer with the group. She
attends Meet n Greets with me, goes with me on home
visits, and helps take care of her grandpups! As a kid, I
collected stuffed “friends”…which naturally grew into
a love of live furry animals.
I got my first boxer in 1999 because one of my friends had mentioned how cool they were. I had
never seen one.  I grew up in the country and we always had “mutts” along with horses, cats,
rabbits, sheep, goats..you name it! We went to meet a litter of puppies and of course had to get
one. How cute are boxer pups?
Three years later I went through a divorce (lived in Ohio
at the time) and unfortunately I was unable to keep my
two boxers. I worked with a great Purebred Rescue in
southern Ohio who was able to keep in touch with me and
let me know about the families my two babies went to.
They even wrote to me this year to let me know they had
heard from my girl’s adoptive family that she had gone to
the rainbow bridge. I couldn’t believe they reached out to
me after over 5 years!

It is still hard for me to think back about surrendering
Ahli and Jasmine, but I know it was the right thing to do at
the time and my experience is what motivated me to get
involved with boxer rescue. Many times folks say “how
could someone give up their dogs?”  I know what they
mean, but I also know that sometimes it is outside of ones’
control and also may be the best thing for the dogs. Now,
volunteering with boxers in need has become a life
passion of mine and I dream of some day having a
sanctuary for older boxers.

When I got on my feet a few years after the divorce I got
Lexi.  I started volunteering for the Greater Ohio Boxer
Rescue and fostered 12 different boxers in one year! Then I
moved home to Wisconsin and added Winston to my
family.  I joined the Minnesota Boxer Rescue and have
been volunteering since 2006.
About two years ago, I met my sweetheart Troy
and knew he was the “one” when he met my dogs
(and loved them) and when we had five dogs in
the house and he loved it!  He had his dog Aki
(got as stray off the street) who is an American
Dingo (Carolina Dog) and our three kids got
along great from the beginning.   We became
“foster flunkies” when we met Sky.
Read her
happy ending here.  I had always wanted a white
boxer and Troy is a sucker for a sad case.  We
continue to foster, so our household is full at five
dogs, but we love every minute of it.

The dirt, hair, full bed, and slobber are all worth
it.  These dogs are our kids and I am thankful
each day for them in my life!

Boxer hugs,
Jodi, Troy, Lexi (5), Winston (3), Sky (6), Aki (3)
