April
My name is April Forslin, my husband Jeremy and I became involved with the MNBR in
February 2008 when we adopted our first boy Oscar and now most recently Duke, another
boy!  My love of boxers started in October 2000 when I met my first love, Cooper who came
into the boxer world on Friday, October 13th.  I should have known the minute she popped
into this world (being it was Friday the 13th) that she would forever change my life.  She was
the absolute cutest thing I’d ever seen and soon gave me a run for my patience with her
stubborn, but cute, baby boxer behaviors!!!  (Anyone who has been blessed with a boxer
puppy knows exactly what I mean here).  She won my heart forever and I knew shortly
thereafter that I would have to become involved on a much greater level with this breed.  My
husband’s love for this breed started the day he met Cooper, she was a little over a year old
and it was love at first sight for the two of them, fortunately he fell for me shortly thereafter,
and we were married in October 2007!
I have always had a soft spot for all animals, I was raised with a family dog and a family cat at
all times and as I grew older I knew that I needed to do something more for animal rights.
Knowing I could not save the animal world I decided the next best thing would be a rescue
organization and what better rescue than one dedicated to the breed I love, Boxers.  I cannot
even begin to tell you how rewarding this involvement with the MNBR has been.  Now more
than ever I spend my time teaching my friends and family the importance of responsible pet
ownership (I use that term lightly because we all know our Boxers own us and not the other
way around) as well as the importance of spaying and neutering pets to help stop animal
overpopulation.
Being a foster parent has been one of the most challenging and rewarding things in our life.
Challenging because it is difficult to hear the heartbreaking stories and see the conditions
from which the dogs come into our rescue.  Rewarding when you see them go to their forever
family and receive the updates as the days, weeks, months go by.   It feels incredible to know
you were able to save them and give them the opportunity to live the life they deserve with a
new family that is devoted to them and their well-being.  It’s just amazing to see how the
MNBR is able to save so many and give them a 2nd chance at life and we are so honored to be
a part of the process.
For the last 8 years I have waited for the right time to get involved and that right time came
this year after my husband and I were married and purchased our first home.  We
immediately started searching for a way to get involved and when Jodi brought Oscar to us in
February our journey began!  As mentioned we adopted Oscar and within weeks got our first
call from Jodi about two dogs named Carter & Sydney that needed our help and we officially
became fosters.  Most recently we adopted Duke, a 4 yr old male that received the approval of
our crazy cat Roman and became an official Forslin.  Even with 3 boxers (and 1 big cat) in our
home we still plan to be an active foster family to boxers for years to come.
A little bit about my husband and me, we are both pilots as well as small business owners
who currently live in Marshall which is located in southwest Minnesota, about 2.5 hrs west of
Minneapolis.  Since marrying and moving to Marshall I have moved into the Operations part
of the company we work for and Jeremy continues to actively fly as a Captain in our jets.  I
provide the stability of being home every night with the dogs while Jeremy’s schedule allows
him to spend most days with them which has been a godsend when we take in new fosters!
