Hi Everyone!!
It's been a while since my foster mom posted my original bio. She's been
meaning to update it for a while now but me & my foster siblings keep her
too busy! I thought I would give her a break & write my own updated bio!
As my foster mom said, I do have arthritis in my back right leg. Twice a
day I take medicine for it - my foster mom calls the stuff Rimadyl & some
glucosimine something or other. I have been doing SO much better since
my foster mom put me on that medicine. It helps me when I want to run &
chase my foster siblings. I can't exactly keep up with them, but I try! It used
to grunt & groan whenever I climbed stairs & stuff but now I don't do that
at all. I still limp, but it's nothing to be worried about. When I am placed in
my forever home, I would really like to stay on my medicines.
And my foster mom was right, I do have food allergies and am on a special
diet. I eat Hill's Prescription Diet z/d ultra allergen free. I used to HATE
eating it, but then my foster mom started mixing the wet z/d stuff with the
dry z/d stuff! I LOVE meal time now! I dance around as my foster mom
makes it for me (she warms up the wet stuff & everything). I will need to
stay on my special food when I get to my forever home. If I don't, my
allergies get pretty bad. Every once in a while my foster dad will sneak a
chicken or tendon treat. I love them, but then my allergies act up & my
foster mom gets real mad at my foster dad.
This past fall, my foster dad's family came to visit. There were two little
boys with them. one of them was almost 2 & the other was just starting to
crawl (and spent a lot of his time in his exersaucer thingy). Those boys
drooled on me & ran into me & hit me & gave me love. I didn't mind them
doing any of that. When I didn't want to be around them, I just went into
another room. No biggy... I'm a lover, not a fighter.
Oh, and my foster mom was wrong... I'm not 8, I'm 7! The doctor I used to
see got my birthday wrong & made me older than I really am; silly doctor.
But please don't let my age, allergies, and arthritis make you think you
shouldn't adopt me. I'm just mellow dude with some gray hair & a bum
knee. I know I got LOTS of years left in me and my foster parents say so
too!! My foster mom says that even though me medicine and food bills are
higher than most dogs, she doesn't mind paying the bill because I am just
that sweet & loveable & mellow & cuddly.
I better sign off now. I think my foster mom will say I did a pretty good job
writing my bio. More importantly, I am positive she thinks that if you meet
me, you will TOTALLY fall in love with me.
I hope to see you at a MNBR Meet & Greet!! With love & Boxer kisses,
Rocket
Update from Rockets Foster: Rocket is walking up to 1 mile at a time, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. He proudly prances through the neighborhood and greets everyone he meets. He sure does love his walks, and I think they are helping to keeping his pain level down. He is down to 1 rimadyl a day and although the vet wants his weight down too the poor guy just has a hard time shedding the pounds. There are no stairs here that Rocket has to climb, so I think this also helps his joints remain less painful.
Car rides are still his favorite! We make an effort to take him with whenever we can. He goes with us to visit and elderly relative in her assisted living home and he is the center of attention every time. I hear for days after how the residents just love him and can't wait for another visit. He is so calm, gentle and very well-behaved too.
Rocket and our kitty, Sofie, pretty much ignore each other. So although there is no great affection, they don't squabble either.
Rocket has made great friends with the neighborhood children that range in age from 2 years - 11 years old and really seems to enjoy them! They throw the ball for him and he is more than happy to retrieve it. They reward him with long with lots of hugs and he returns their affection with lots of sloppy kisses. =)
