Hello EVERYONE! My name is Maximus but you can call me Max or Maxxy.
My foster mom told me to not be humble when I tell you about myself,
so this will be hard for me. I know I am a great dog, but I am very
modest about it. So I am unsure of where to begin, but here goes. I
was brought to my foster family because my owner's wife passed away
and now he is planning on traveling everywhere in the world, so he
cannot care for me anymore. That is ok, I am very easy to please so
going to a nice forever home suits me just fine.
I am 4 years old and was born October 2004. I have all my vet records
and shots. I am unsure if I am micro-chipped but will definitely be
before the week is out.
My foster mom and dad are amazed at how well I get along with cats. I
do not chase them at all. In fact, my foster cat sister lays down near
me, on her BACK! That means she feels 100% comfortable with me.
I also have a foster brother who is still kinda a puppy. He is 10
months old but sure has a lot of energy. He wants to be the dominant
one, which is fine by me, I have no aggression issues and can fit into
my role very easily. I am sort of sad that he tore apart my favorite
toy, I mean, he just chewed that thing to shreds! It was a rubber
squeaky tonka truck toy… all four wheels are gone now and it doesn't
squeak anymore - what good is a squeaky toy that doesn't squeak?
I do have one problem, though. My left hind leg has a limp. We are
working on figuring out what is wrong, and I will let everyone know
what we find out.
My foster dad thinks I am the most handsome out of all the dogs. My
modesty won't allow me to agree with him, but I am pretty sharp
looking! I have a massive head and broad chest, easily able to scare
people if needed (which I don't – I am too mellow for that) and the
only time I bark is when I hear a noise – coming from the front door
usually! But the bark only lasts a split second… it is just a warning
to let my folks know someone is here!
I love to eat. I will need to be supervised around food, either by
getting a special bowl that forces me to eat slower, or a few smaller
meals every day. I am being weaned off of my Purina food and onto a
natural kibble with no by-products. I don't care what I eat – it all
tastes good to me, so let my foster mom feed me whatever!
I LOVE tennis balls. If my mouth was big enough I would hold dozens of
them at a time. Then I would never run out! But for now I just like to
walk around the house with a tennis ball in the side of my mouth like
I am chewing tobacco. It is funny to my foster family, I don't know
why they laugh at me!
Ok so I have been trying to learn something called a "doggy door". I
can let myself out but still have trouble coming back in the same way.
So I go all the way around to the sliding glass door on the deck, to
be let back in. I am sure I will get the hang of it soon enough. There
ARE brains in my big head!
Now my foster mom wants to say something about me:
This is Rebecca here, and I can tell you that Max is not only
stunning, he is very tame, obedient and just a very loving dog. I am
amazed at how well my cat and Max get along. They aren't at the point
where they are going to be cuddling each other, but within 2 hours of
welcoming Max to our home they were laying within feet of each other
on the floor. Max is about 68 pounds, but he looks much bigger. I
think it is his big block head, because he weighs the same as our
puppy, but looks like he is WAY bigger. I do not have any kids and
have not witnessed him around children, but his previous owner has
grandchildren that used to climb all over him.
He snores a teeny bit, and whines when he wants your attention or
wants to go outside. His slobber factor is only average (I have seen
boxers who can SLOBBER)… he sleeps on his dog bed on the floor, even
though we have invited him up on the bed. (Imagine that!) He doesn't
like crates, and I don't know if it is because his owners left him
crated for long periods. He gets along with other dogs just great, and
at least in this short time, he doesn't appear to have any desire for
dominance. He loves to play, but his hind leg causes him to limp, and
it is sad to see. Hopefully we can get that taken care of.
When his tail wags, it "mixes" like a beater, around in circles. It is
so cute to watch his stub tail going crazy like that!
