Please meet Joe Black. Joe is a gorgeous, approximately 2-year old, "black"*
boxer with a great personality and full of energy. (*A black colored boxer is
actually a brindle coat color without the fawn color showing through.)
Joe came to MNBR on St. Valentine's Day...and apparently St. Valentine was
looking out for Joe. Joe had been scheduled to be euthanized on February 11
as the shelter where he was had run out of space and had more dogs coming
in...it looked like Joe's number was up. Fortunately for Joe, a caring Vet Tech
saw that he had a lovely temperament and felt he deserved one more chance at
a good life. She gained a reprieve for him and contacted MNBR. This kind
woman took Joe home for a couple of nights until his foster home could be
arranged and his transportation worked out.
Within a couple days of reaching his foster home, he was scheduled to be
neutered and also to check to see if he had any urinary tract problems. You
see, Joe was being euthanized because his owners said he could not be house
trained when they dropped him at the shelter. A test was conducted and it
was found that Joe has crystals in his urine. This condition is extremely
painful and can make it difficult for a dog to hold his urine for normal
durations. Joe is now on medication to rectify this condition; and we are
confident that his house training will progress quickly. Hopefully, this
treatment will be all that is necessary but it may be that Joe will need to be on a
special diet to control this condition.
Joe has a very outgoing and loving temperament. We have taken him
shopping at a local pet food store and he had a great time meeting people and
other dogs. He loved all the people at the vet clinic where they commented on
what a "good boy" he was. He has shown no aggression to my two male
boxers. We are working on additional house manners and leash walking and
he is coming out as a star in all lessons...already mastering "sit" and "down" in
just a few days.
Joe will need an experienced dog family that is willing to continue to work
with him; and he would probably do best in a home where he is not left alone
all day. He would love to have another playful dog in his family as well.
