Update: Brutus arrived on Sunday 7/19/2009 and seems to be adjusting well to family life in his foster home. We have four children at home with the youngest being 3 years of age and Brutus is doing fine with them. He hasn't learned to play with any toys yet, but gets very excited and wants to play every time we walk through the door. Even if we just walk out for 2 minutes and walk back in, it's like a welcome home party all over again. Brutus does very well on his leash. He rarely pulls and walks right next to me. He is also doing well in his crate. He will go in the crate whenever is told to and does very well sleeping at night. It's funny how fast he's snoring away after the crate door is closed. We've also noticed that Brutus, like many other boxers, considers himself a lap dog from time to time and loves to give kisses. As each day goes by, it seems like Brutus is warming up more and more. It appears that he may have had little contact with people, as he's been pretty shy and spends a lot of time laying around. He has been getting a little more active though. I haven't seen any aggression from Brutus. We had a Jack Russell Terrier over to visit and Brutus did nothing more than sniff and ignore him. We also had the small dog from across the street come charging at him, and again he looked at him and continued on his walk.

Brutus has something noticeably wrong with his right/rear paw. The veterinarian believes it is probably due to a past break that didn't heal properly. Brutus will often raise it off the ground whenever he moves any faster than a slow walk. I'm hopeful that it might be getting a little better because he was trying to convince me to go a little faster with him on our walk yesterday and he didn't seem to lift it as much. The veterinarian stated that Brutus should probably only go for 1 walk a day for about 20 minutes. It's difficult to tell if this is something that could get better with time, something that would need surgery to correct or something that is permanent. Brutus was also found to have a tumor on the top of his head, which is going to be removed on Friday (7/24/2009) morning. I will update as soon as we find out more about the tumor. The veterinarian also said he is not 100% sure, but Brutus may have a very slight heart murmur. He wants to see him again in 2 months to see if it's still there, and if so, if it has gotten any worse.

All in all, Brutus is a very sweet dog, who I believe is really enjoying his new life off the streets and onto the couch:) I'm confident that he will open up and we'll enjoy his full personality as he gets more used to being in a home. More updates to follow!
